One of East London's best kept secrets, Victoria Park is a great place to take the kids. Opened in 1845 when a local MP presented Queen Victoria with a petition of some 30,000 signatures to create a park in London's East End. The idea was to make the park a sort of Regents Park for the east and the original park even had its own speaker's corner.

The park today hasn't changed much and boasts lovely flower beds, a lake, children's playground and a lovely tree lined avenue. The park is particularly busy at the weekends with all sorts of sports taking place and the large road like paths that run round the park are great for cycling.

Split in two by Grove Road the west of the park contains its most picturesque features with a small cafe near the lake that serves hot drinks and snacks.

There is a traditional steam fair that visits a few times a year and it also hosts a number of music festivals.

"Just returned from a great day out here with my 10, 6 and 4 year old. The new playground is brilliant with wooden castles and huts, giant sandpit, really cool swings and balancing walks. There is a lot of development going on all over the park so really looking forward to seeing it completed. "
