Herne Hill Velodrome is the last remaining finals venue from the 1948 Olympic games - and the hope is, it will play a vital part in developing the riders on the run up to the 2012 Olympics.

Host to top quality race meets; it is also a place where kids can come to begin their cycling careers. It's design is crucial - all ages, and abilities are able to train. Bradley Wiggins began at the Velodrome, and now the Velodrome's place on the map is safe, the champions of the future once again have a secure base to train.

The track is 450m long, 30 degrees steep at the highest point.
