Libraries in London

Libraries have moved on from the antiquated old places with 'No Talking' signs I remember as a child. Our local library is a modern building that has wifi access, all the local and international papers, music CDs and DVDs for hire, computer games, talking books, language courses and computer terminals, as well as books!

Books are normally free to borrow though you often have to pay a charge for music CDs, films and games though this is normally considerably cheaper than renting from a DVD shop and the loan time is often longer, normally three days.

There are also reading clubs, computer clubs and other events for young children, check the website of your local library to see what's on.

Also note that all of the above is free! Not a bad way to keep the kids busy for a few hours.

Many boroughs have a website supporting their library services, allowing you to join online, check the availability of items and reserve them if available.

If you have older children there are also a number of specilaist libraries in London covering subjects such as poetry and zoology.

There are 228 libraries in London, so we have grouped them together into the regions of London. See the links below to browse the libraries in each region.
