The Hackney Empire was built in 1901 and was ahead of its time with electric lights, central heating and the in-built projection box. Chaplin and Stan Laurel each perfected their acts here before embarking on the big time.

The Hackney Empire continued to entertain between the two World Wars as a theatre but in 1956 it became the first commercial television studios in the UK. However, in 1986 it returned to it's original purpose and then in 2001 underwent a restoration project.

In it's 11th decade the Hackney Empire carries on providing entertainment to all.

"Surely one of Londons finest theatres. Whole host of family based shows here throughout the year in a wonderful old theatre. Bring the kids down to for a real treat...."
