Young visitors are invited to unlock the secrets of Sir John Soane's Museum and unleash their creativity during the new season of holiday workshops for 2011. Tucked away in Lincoln's Inn Fields at the heart of London, this magical, mysterious Museum will offer a range of inspiring activities encouraging children to explore the Soane's hidden treasures and develop new skills with specialist guidance.

Sir John Soane (1753- 1737) was an inveterate collector, filling every corner of his beautiful home with items that fascinated him. From fossils to classical fragments from Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome and from contemporary paintings to architectural models, drawings and literature, he intended that after his death both his house and its extraordinary contents should be used to educate and inspire.

Today the Museum continues that intention with its inventive and eclectic workshop programmes for adults and children. At Easter young adventurers won't want to miss the opportunity to explore the museum armed with Sir 'Long John' Soane's treasure map. Following a series of cryptic clues
they will embark on a journey that leads them to exotic artefacts and hidden treasure.

One of Soane's most prized possessions was the great alabaster sarcophagus of Egyptian King Seti I which occupies pride of place in the Museum's crypt. This year children will be able to immerse themselves in the magical land of the pharaohs at workshops dedicated to the mysterious world of Ancient Egypt. In April young visitors can make a mask inspired by Seti or a Greek or Roman god, based on objects at the Museum. In June, a day devoted to the treasures of the pharaohs will enable them to create an amulet, headdress or jewelled collar and next August they can find out about the secrets of mummification and make an animal-headed Canopic jar to take home at the end of the day.

As a bonus for parents, the fact that the Museum is situated near Covent Garden in the centre of London means that while children enjoy a day, morning or afternoon of holiday fun, adults have the chance to take some time off too. Whole days run 10:30am - 3:00pm and half days run 10:30 -
12:30pm or 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Children must bring their own lunch for whole day workshops.
