Barnet Gate Wood

Hendon Wood Lane
go to website

This woodland is a remnant of ancient woodland and has stayed the same shape since 1754.
It has fared less well than many woods in Barnet and overgrown with rhododendron. The native trees are not setting seed, but to make up for that, it has the finest examples of 'layed' hornbeam in the Borough.
Most of the woodland flowers have been shaded out but some remain and the woods are a peaceful haven to visit and interesting to compare with managed woods elsewhere.

The Dollis Valley Green Walk passes by the woodland from Moat Mount Open Space on its way to Totteridge Fields. The woodland is also one of the main sources of the Dollis brook, which winds its way around the borough to reach the Welsh Harp (Brent) Reservoir.
