If your ever looking for something a little bit different to do with the kids one weekend you would be well advised to pop down to the Magic Cavern in Barons Court. Located in the basement of the Curtains Up pub about 5 minutes walk from Barons Court station. The intimate nature of the theatre lends itself brilliantly to the close up magic and Richard Leigh, who will soon be hosting his 1000th show at this venue, is a brilliant magician and host.
The Theatre itself holds around 50 people and has the setting of a magic cave with raised seating on two sides forming a sort of pit where the magic is performed. The audience was a straight split between adults and children who were warmed up with a few card tricks, then Richard Leigh took to the stage. Starting with some close up magic the show gathered pace as audience members were invited to participate. The show lasted just over an hour and climaxed with an exciting trick developed during the show. I won’t describe the tricks done as this will spoil the surprise should you go but our 3 kids aged 6, 8 and 13 were captivated. The mood is relaxed and after the show you could speak to Richard and children could have their photos taken with him.
The pub upstairs is very family orientated and serves nice food.
The Magic Cavern runs every Sunday and also hosts a number of other magic show throughout the year catering for both family and adult audiences.
