London is having its moment right now that’s for sure but with Olympic tickets hard to come by and the ones which are available being rather expensive how can we get into the ‘Team GB’ spirit without breaking the bank? Well actually, a fairly easy way to do it is by popping down to one of the BT London Live events! It’s FREE to get in (you can book guaranteed tickets on line for a small fee) and there’s lots to do inside including watching all the main sporting events on giant outdoor screens! Trafalgar Square as well as Hyde and Victoria Parks are playing host to daily activities with live music, children’s fun and have a go sport areas! We went to Victoria Park at the weekend to see Rasta Mouse play on the main stage and we had an awesome time! Children especially are catered for with an interactive sports science exhibit and ‘Discover’, our good old Stratford favourite story centre are providing crafting activities where we had much fun making Olympic medals and torches and listening to stories. We also tried our little hands at tennis, watched a few more bands and had fun dodging the rain showers. The down side is that you can’t take food and drinks in with you, not even water (baby food and drink excepted) and the food and drink inside is massively over priced… But we had a lovely afternoon, it felt like a festival and we’re very glad we went! Without tickets to the actual games this is the next best thing!
I mentioned ‘Discover’ above! We love this place, it’s one of THE best things we have done in London and because it’s so good we continue to visit all the time having signed up for their extremely reasonably priced annual membership card. It’s worth knowing that for the entire Olympic period it’s offering FREE entry to Newham residents and the people who work there! This giant playground which is suitable for children of all ages (we first went with our little one when she was about 6 months old) is the most superb day out, you won’t be disappointed and it’s also based in Stratford so you get to soak up the Olympic atmosphere! With a fabulous garden filled with giant musical instruments and play equipment, an indoor sensory, crafting, dress up and story play areas as well as the wonderful ‘Superheroes’ make believe City downstairs there’s something for every family member!
